Gen Africa Company Profile
Gen Africa Asset Managers (formerly Genesis Kenya Investment Management Limited) was established in 1996, to provide high quality investment management services to Kenyan institutional investors. In setting up the company, the directors were guided by the belief that institutional investors in Africa (such as retirement benefits schemes and insurance companies) had become more demanding in the services they wished to receive from the investment manager to whom they entrusted their assets.
Gen Africa Asset Managers is licensed by both the Capital Markets Authority and the Retirement Benefits Authority as Fund Managers in Kenya and Uganda.
Centum Investment Company Limited (“Centum”) acquired a 73.35 % stake in the company in December 2013, following a decision by Genesis Asset Managers LLP, to divest. The management and staff of GenAfrica Asset Managers own the balance, 26.65 %. The current revised Board reflects the new ownership structure with five Directors; three representing Centum and two representing GenAfrica management.
The company has evolved over the years from managing a single offshore client worth Kshs.1 billion in 1997 to 95 local and offshore clients valued in excess of KShs. 143 billion as at end of September 2015 (both pension and non-pension funds). This success has been driven by the passion to provide clients with competitive returns as well as superior customer service.
